But at least they weren’t full of power window goodness.

Kinja'd!!!

With my car’s original parts, I inherited a set of complete doors with crank windows and manual locks. Apparently the seller thinks like I do, and wanted to convert the car’s original power windows and locks to manual.

Simplify, and add lightness.

Even if it is a few pounds in a hundred pound plus door.

These things are fucking HEAVY, loaded with glass, the regulator, hinges, etc.

Kinja'd!!!

All gutted they still weigh probably close to a hundred pounds, and moving them around my garage probably accounts for my sore muscles today. That, and drilling out all the rivets holding things together.

Kinja'd!!!

But I got some good glass and manual window parts out of the deal, and they’re in good shape, for the most part.

Kinja'd!!!

And they’re a LOT lighter than the power stuff.

Now I just got to get rid of the shells, a hood or two, some other extra parts, and make room in the garage for starting to work on the floor and getting it ready for the motor I still don’t have.

Haven't been keeping track of this project. Did you get rid of the door beam? That’s Really heavy and puts a lot of stress on the hinges. I gutted my 79 Camaro down to 2680 with steel wheels and iron heads. Glass front and rear and plexi sides. Also did manual vega steering box and you’ll get rid of a ton more weight with removal of front and rear inner bumpers.

Most of it is the ultra heavy gauge crash bar through the center of the door.

Honestly haven’t seen the inside of the original doors since they’ve been in storage. I assume the beams are still there.

You’re not kidding about the inner bumpers though. I could open a gym in my garage and have people do curls with the two that I got, get all swole.

He might not want to do that if he’s not installing a bar or cage.

Agreed with Cromoly no beam on street use being dangerous. A 6 point with swing out door bar does wonders for the structure. I run the .083 chrome moly Nora minimum on the side bars. The Dse subframe connectors do wonders.

Yeah, second gen doors are fucking HEAVY. That's one of the reason you see so many second gens with sagging doors, they were just too heavy for those poor hinges. Pretty much everything about the second gen is heavy. Hell, even the T-tops were heavy on my 81 when I had it.
